Gaden Trout Hatchery

Come and see how premier sport fish are bred and raised at Gaden Trout Hatchery!

The Gaden Trout Hatchery, located on the Thredbo River near Jindabyne, is one of Australia’s main centres for breeding and rearing cold water sport fish.

Four species of fish are produced at Gaden: Atlantic salmon, brook trout, brown trout, and rainbow trout. Visitors can view feeding of the big fish that come to the surface in some of the brood stock ponds, watch a 10 minute video that outlines the purpose and operations of the hatchery, and go for a walk around the grounds with one of the experienced hatchery staff. Guided tours of the hatchery are conducted 10am and 2pm daily.

Steve Williamson’s Tackle Shop has the largest range of fishing tackle hire in the Snowy Mountains.

You can hire all equipment for lure spinning, bait fishing and they hire a full range of fly fishing equipment including waders and fly vests. Boat anglers are also catered for with all boat trolling tackle hire including specialist equipment like lead core trolling lines and deep trolling downriggers.

Their specialist trout fishing shop also has all the latest fishing rods, reels and lures and a wide range of bait.

Situated between Jindabyne and Thredbo in Australia’s Snowy Mountains, the relaxing distillery and café are surrounded by an expansive sculpture garden.
